Kaunas Vilijampolė district provides a great opportunity to work on the revival of abandoned industrial zones and convert them into spaces attractive for living and creating business. The context of chaotic planning dictates the task of creating the new quarter with a rational structure, orderly arrangement, and clearly expressed private and public spaces – from this a Residents’ Yard and a Community Park is introduced, which combines the existing abandoned green spaces with the newly designed ones. The new six-story volumes harmoniously blend into the environment, but at the same time, they also set a new direction for the development of the district – to create perimeters, to divide large-scale districts into smaller parts. The “cuts” at the ends of the facades are chosen to emphasize the architectural expression – this allows to give individuality to volumetrically similar buildings, but at the same time preserves the possibility of planning and adapting the new quarter according to the changing needs in the future.
