Modern Community Centre and Library in Klaipeda

Metaphor of a bridge was the inspiration that shaped the building and allowed to translate the philosophical concept of a connection. A link between library’s past and present functions, a relation among local communities. Although the footprint of the building is constructed according to the visual grid lines formed by the existing urban context the second floor volumes deny this rule to emphasize the architectural idea. Concept to view a library as a cloud of ideas that hovers over communities’ field of events provided a base for functional distribution. Everyday life is based here on the ground. We learn, eat, work, communicate, socialize and all these actions generate information that gather up in cloud above us – a library as we know it now.
