A project with an exceptional location – the site has never been built on, and the first building to appear here is the one we have reconstructed (original project authors – Artūras Blotnys, Dainius Kitovas, Sergejus Michailovas (structural eng.) 2004). It is also the site of the first Vilnius Planetarium, built in 1960. As this building did not exist then, the planetarium dome was visible from the street. When reconstructing this building, the idea was to mark this “cosmic past” with slightly extravagant, upward-looking volumes. The building has several layers of meaning – a thoroughly modern essence covered by a respectful façade composition that echoes the rhythms of the old town.
